And so.. this very weekend I’m going to Bruxelles, Belgium.
Know almost nothing about their culture, surely not enough to write a decent post about it.
However.. there’s a bunch of belgian artists I loved in the 90s and still appreciate: we already talked about marvellous dEUS, here; in my opinion the best “made in Belgium” indie item of all time.
I cannot forget to mention Venus, a brilliant band from Bruxelles I happened to see live in Sardinia a good ten years ago: in that occasion I bought myself the cdsingle of “Royalsucker” (their first EP). I strongly suggest you to go searching the net for this guiltily underrated indie pop gem. They split a couple of years ago.
There’s another belgian band I liked a lot in the past. It’s Soulwax. Their 1998 “Much against everyone’s advice” album is awesome and filled with killer tunes. They’re still alive and kicking, but unfortunately they decided to choose djing and remixing over.. er.. guitar-toting? (here’s the Uk site, last updated in november 2004).
You could happen to see them performing as a (ultra-hyped) duo, under the Soulwax former brand or the 2manydjs new one.
In memories of those good old days (3 videos 3)..
And so “S.Darko” came out in Italy last Friday.
I think I’m not going to go to the cinema to see it: I read a few negative reviews, here and there, and a friend of mine who found “Donnie Darko” at least interesting, told me this sequel has nothing of the peculiar mood of the first movie.
Honestly, I still can’t tell whether I liked “Donnie Darko” or not: I think I belong to that crowded type of audience who didn’t get the meaning of the movie (however neither the director nor the scriptwriter got it, I suppose), who lost himself in Read More..
While waiting to write something resembling a post (know what I’m referring to? Iinteresting subject, fancy adjectives, indie arty stuff, intriguing vid), here’s the.. result of a discussion I had with a friend of mine about girlbands. Only a few days ago, in a sportswear shop (can’t tell how it started.. the last thing I remember is that I was looking at myself in a mirror, with a pair of green and yellow sneakers on).
From The Bangles to Le Tigre, from L7 to the Spice Girls, I thought we mentioned the entire female pop / rock world.
But.. at night, lights off, head on pillow, I realize that “Uh! We forgot Sleater Kinney!!”.
Un-for-giv-a-ble. I was about to give him a call and tell him about the crime we committed.
I would have liked to upload “Jumpers” (a pure masterpiece), but it’s so sad, too sad for this site (it’s not for nothing that we have a pink smiling logo, here).
And so..
Sleater Kinney - You’re no rock n’ roll fun (2000)
Jens Lekman has contracted the H1N1 virus, which you might know as “swine flu”. The pop auteur, who got the virus while on tour in South America earlier this month, is recovering back home in Sweden right now.
hello? is there anybody? helloooww??
here we go again. first post from ages. first of many new ones to come.
at least, I hope so.
this video to re-introduce myself.
song taken from the so-called “soundtrack to my life” list.
hello again to anyone who’s there.
Yes.. after conquering London and Berlin, PTBJ logo put its pink and black flag on the Emerald Isle ground.
Unfortunately, I lost the logo somewhere, while moving from town to town (town? village, more likely). And so.. no pictures of the logo in Dublin (however.. they would have not been that different: pubs, food, castles and.. have I already said pubs?).
To whom may be concerned, you can find the rest of this silly footage here.
