Dirty Girls

So, I wonder, is it still controversial to like Hole and Courtney Love?

I used to love both. My late teenage room had several Courtneys on the walls and I still have lots of magazine clippings on the band left from the time before the internet. A couple of years ago she released her first solo album, America’s Sweetheart, and I must say it is a very underrated album. My initial objection to it was that it was a bit overly produced, which is a direct result of my really liking the punk aspect of 90s rock music, especially that of Hole and the like, but when I listen to it today it doesn’t bother me as much. It is a great album. Courtney’s lyrics have always been great and the album is really rock n roll. A natural development from Hole’s last album.

So why am I going on about this now? Well, Courtney’s coming album Nobody’s Daughter, that’s been “coming” for about two years or so, has a new release date march 9th. I need more Courtney Love in my life.

Man, was it more than ten years ago Hole released Celebrity Skin? Shit.

I was like 12 when this song came out I think, and I loved it. But I wasn’t allowed to buy the CD because Courtney love was “dirty.” But then, I also wasn’t allowed to watch the Simpsons, or MTV, or Southpark, or Ren and Stimpy…….
This comment has made me more frustrated than I intended it to. In conclusion: great video, exciting news, and welcome back, Jenny.

    thanks!

my parents are basically atheists so they never objected much to that kind of thing. however, when i was a kid i wasn’t allowed to watch V (you know, tv-series about aliens?). this was earlier than 12, this was about when i was 7-8 maybe. some kids in my class saw it, most of whom had elder brothers and sisters, so i knew about it and once or twice managed to watch it at someone else’s house. anyway, point of the story. when i asked my mom later on why it was i wasn’t allowed to see it she looked at me like i was an idiot and said calmly “but jenny, dear, you cried when you watched the muppet show.”

hahaha. well my mom’s pretty much a-religious as well (not sure what, if any, her exact beliefs are), but i still wasn’t allowed to like anything she didn’t like. you should have seen my joy the day i realized there were movies that weren’t romantic comedies. and musicians who weren’t james taylor. it was an exciting day.
    i hate james taylor.

my dad still remembers the day he took me to the cinema to see “Gremlins” (it was 1984..).
the scene where a gremlin “melts” scared me to death: I actually kept my eyes half closed from that point ’til the end of the movie.
he says I had nightmares for days.

(uh.. I loved Hole. I did consume “Live through this”. “Violet” is one of the best screamalong-song ever.
I saw them live in a festival in Italy in 1999. it was so lame: the crowd insulted her throughout the entire set. a dickhead threw a bottle on stage. she stopped playing, pointed at him, and ordered the security to “arrest” him and take him away. I felt so ashamed..)

in 1999 she was used to it. i’m pretty sure that’s the year she went on tour with marylin manson. his fans didn’t like her too much either.

(mm.. now that you make me think.. yes, marylin manson played in that festival, too)
