Another music vid by an italian director. “Incantevole” by Subsonica

I was thinking over the wonderfully funny discussion over my latest post, the one about the video for Bugo’s “Nel giro giusto.
It’s a fact that the rest of the world probably knows nothing about italian indie music (yes! it DOES exist!! and - guess what! - it doesn’t always suck!!).
But.. what about italian music vids? Does the world know anything about them? I suppose not.
So to make up for this deficiency, let’s start with this post (there’s an old one about that masterpiece that is “Luna” by Verdena. Go and watch it!! NOW!!).

The song is “Incantevole” by Subsonica. The director is Maki Gherzi.
A young happy loving couple. A trip to Prague (/ Praha / Praga), photo shooting, smiles. Is everything alright?
if you become innocence, I’ll be mud to tempt your skin, without burning“,
if you become distance, I’ll be (I hope the translation is correct..) asphalt concrete, and footprint to your steps, without ever squeezing
if you become war, I’ll be by your side and give you my smile, not faking it

If you like to sing along with the chorus:

Fuori è un mondo fragile
ma tutto qui cade
incantevole
come quando resti con me

(Outside, there’s a fragile world. But here, everything falls into pieces, and it’s charming.
Just like when you stay with me)

It’s not what you probably call “refined arty dense indie stuff”, but everytime I watch the video I feel shivers.
Enjoy

seriously, speaking of verdena (already left a comment on that linked post, look there first), i just realized which band they sound like. it’s kent! listen to this; http://se.youtube.com/watch?v=5SF8c8hbA9I (picture quality is so-so). no wonder i liked them :)

really? I just know a few singles by Kent. But I thought they were a bit less.. heavy? guitars are “cleaner”, and they are much more “epic”, to me.
Like.. halfway between.. er.. Muse and Adorable (uk 90s band).
I’ll go and listen to them more thoroughly. promise!

well. i guess it depends on which album cos, granted, some albums are very clean but the do have their heavy, noisy songs too. the song i linked here is from their 1997 album (isola) and back then in the beginning they were still pretty noisy. the whole first album (s/t from 1995) is pretty noisy.

    which singles/songs do you know?

the one you linked! I knew this one! but.. I remember an english version of it. is it possible?
I could be wrong, but I remember I was in an HMV store in London (feb / narch 1999): I bought Blur’s “Tender” on cassette (!!) and saw this single of Kent with a sort of red cover.
however.. I had “Isola” on a copied cassette (no titles..), then I remember a song like “gravity” or something like this.
and a video with them playing live with.. a blood red background.
    and nothing else.

yes, it’s very possible, there is an english version of that album. :) i think they’re far better in swedish though. the lyrics are far superior in swedish and it just sounds better.

if you want to know them better, i recommend listening to their first album (”kent”), “vapen och ammunition” (2002) and “du & jag döden” (2005). they are my favorites. (i’m an album-listener, not really a song-listener). [translated: guns and ammunition, you & me death.]

i’m glad you knew about them at all :)
