Happy Birthday, Alan!
Today Alan McGee turns 48. For the ones who don’t have the faintest idea of who he is and what he did for the music history (and for my oowwld good times, i.e. the 90s) to deserve this post.. you can rely on wikipedia, as usual.
However.. he was the founder of.. er.. Creation Records, which he had fiercely been taking care of from 1983 to 2000 (he sold half of Creation to Sony in 1992, actually).
For the ones who, apparently, have never listened to good music (what were you listening to in the 90s? Billy Ray Cyrus?), I show you a partial list of the bands McGee discovered or produced or supported (or simply distributed) through Creation Records during all those golden years: The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Oasis, Teenage Fanclub, The Boo Radleys, The House of Love, Super Furry Animals, Adorable..
The shoegazing scene (oh..my heart’s collapsing..) was born and grew within Creation cherishing arms: My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive, Swervedriver, The Telescopes (yes, I promise I’ll dedicate a whole, juicy post on shoegazing bands very soon).
And so, to celebrate McGee’s birthday..
Something popular, something weird, and.. something personal.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
Oasis - Supersonic (1994 - uncool original UK video)
Super Furry Animals - God! Show me magic (1996)
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow (1991)
