Something fresh: new songs for your playlist

In a need for the freshest music on the net?
So.. rush to www.pitchforkm.. no, joking.

Here’s some brand new stuff, as fragrant as a home made chocolate muffin just came out of the oven.
Mm.. we could take a listen to “Left behind” (released on the 14th of July) by brasilian wonder Cansei de ser sexi, maybe?
Mm.. I do love CSS, but this song.. lacks their first album’s multicolour electro flavour. And I don’t like the video that much. Let’s wait and see what their second album (”Donkey”, out next monday) will sound like..

I could suggest.. mm.. second single by the Ting Tings? Mm.. I liked “Great DJ” and its mantra-like “..the drums, the drums, the drums..“, but “That’s not my name” doesn’t impress me that much.

Why not early 90s gods Primal Scream’s “Can’t Go Back”? Solid song, elegant video, but.. not enough for Pretending to be Japanese’s standards, no no no.

The Verve’s return? As an appetizer to their 4th album (titled.. ehm.. “Fourth”, out on the 18th of August), they’ll release “Love is noise” as first single on the 4th of August. Pointless song, repetitive and boring chorus, to me. “Urban hymns”-era class is so far, far away..
However, you can watch the video here.

Uh.. forgetting.. The Cure’s new single! As I wrote already in a previus post, their 13th album will be in shops on the 13th of September, and after releasing two singles on the 13th of May and on the 13th of June, on the 13th of July they gave a third one to their worldwide fans.
“Sleep when I’m dead” is not that bad, actually. And that jingle-jangling sitar in the background is awesome.
But the “Let’s go to bed”-alike bassline really pisses me off.

Mm.. bingo! There’s a british band whose first album is going to be published on the 11th of August. They’re Late of the pier, they come from Castle Donington, but, fortunately, they’re not into heavy metal at all.
I think they do deserve a listen.
Enjoy

that video totally distracted me from the song, how odd. but i did catch all the influences, as in, how many they were, not which. my head’s about to explode! or am i just cranky?

They are everywhere hailed as the new Klaxons (that I totally love): but I think Late of the Pier are somehow different. They both start from a similar base (a certain 80s’ fluorescent pop and aesthetic) but in the latter the “let’s mix different influences together” aspect is much more present.
Talking about influences.. mm.. Human League / Heaven 17, Adam & the Ants, and, like every single review on the net reports, legendary Gary Numan (I tooootally agree: expecially for the way of singing).
Often the rhythms reminds me of.. Fischerspooner’s, Felix da Housecat’s (it’s called electro-clash, right?).
There are also some raw punk-funk elements (like.. mm.. The Rapture, The Gossip..) sprinkled here and there. Just a pinch.
    However.. 5 singles, 5 jewels.
“Space and the woods” is stunning: bands like The Bravery would sell their mothers to sound like this.
“Bears are coming” are Klaxons using Tom Tom Club / Talking Heads (/ Architechture in Helsinki)’s drums + Squarepusher’s bleeps.
Mmm.. yeees.. I think I like them.

forgettin.. now and then, like in “Heartbeat” chorus, they remind me of Of Montreal, “Hissing fauna” era (the only Of Montreal’s album I’ve listened to)

Sergio, as your boss, I insist you listen to Satanic Panic in the Attic and The Sunlandic Twins, which are both far better Of Montreal albums than Hissing Fauna. Do it.
