Music Video Throwdown

So Jocelyn mentioned today that all the bloggers and blogettes should have a little competition with their three favorite music videos. So I figure I’ll throw down the gauntlet and a challenge with mine first.

Get ready for these!

Run DMC Vs. Jason Nevis - It’s Like That
Who the hell doesn’t like break dance battles?

Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar
This is my favorite music video of all time. Ever. Michel Gondry directed/created it. Everything that comes into the video represents a sound or instrument. It’s amazing.

Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
It goes without saying that this video rules your face and blows your mind.

I win.

That last one did rock my face. And disturbed me.

    …These videos all suck though.

You’re wrong, you are DEAD wrong.

All these videos are like seven times better than yours. They’re like festering rotten bowl of fruit with fruit flies swarming around it next to my delicious visual/audio feast.

“Star Guitar” could have been one of my choices.
not because I like that video that much.
no.. just to show off: “see how much I’m arty? are you, stubborn and splendidely adorable foolish crowd, able to appreciate the way EVERYTHING THAT COMES INTO THE VIDEO REPRESENTS A SOUND OR INSTRUMENT??”.
but it would have sounded tooooo pretentious.

    you asked for it, man.

  4. Jocelyn

Yeah Luke, your Chemical Brothers video is way more pretentious than any of mine. Good thing I didn’t put up “Around the World” by Daft Punk, like I was thinking of doing, or I would have gotten the same critique from that mean Italian man.

  5. Sergio

yeah, you’re so damn right, boss!! er.. I meant.. Jocelyn.
It’s too easy to win using the “Gondry” weapon.

(fool. you’re a fool, Sergio. now you can’t use Bjork’s “bachelorette”, “joga” and “hyperballad”, White Stripes’ “hardest button to button” and “fell in love with a girl”, Chemical Brothers’ “let forever be”, Foo’s “everlong”..)

  6. Jocelyn

The song “Everlong” is better than the video anywayz.

You could probably get away with Spike Jonez, though. We all know you love Weezer.

  7. Sergio

    uh..
are you spying me or what?
(let’s get rid of “undone: the sweater song” immediately!!!)

  8. Jocelyn

    but what about buddy holly?

Haha, I’m pretty sure if the competition is best music video, one of the factors of a great music video would be visual relationship in regards to the song itself. To which “Star Guitar” has in spades. Don’t think I didn’t feel apprehensive about adding Gondry’s video. I just figured people would be able to see beyond that and understand that the video is legitimately great. If it was instead created by some uncredited Visual Arts student, would it be alright? Only closed minded people dislike things because they look “indie” or the like. Sorry man, but not liking a work of art because everyone likes it? That’s stupid. Stop caring what people think and post what you want.
